Mills County board renews law enforcement services contracts

(Glenwood) — Mills County officials have renewed their law enforcement contracts with multiple communities, with some slight tweaks.

At its regular meeting Tuesday morning, the Mills County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved law enforcement services contracts with the cities of Emerson, Pacific Junction, Malvern, Hastings, Silver City, and Henderson for the 2027 fiscal year, which begins July 1st. Mills County Sheriff Greg Schultz says the per-resident costs for the communities are slated to remain the same as in the current fiscal year. After reviewing the documents with Assistant County Attorney John Pfeifer, Schultz says there were some slight language changes regarding the enforcement of city codes.

“John and I did take out a little bit of language that talked about the enforcement of city ordinances by county deputies,” said Schultz. “We can still do all the enforcement we want, but just not on the city codes. It’s actually much more cost effective for (the cities) to go through their attorney.”…
