Nebraska Supreme Court issues ruling on Fort Calhoun murder case

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The Nebraska Supreme Court on Friday issued a ruling on the case of William Collins, accused of killing a woman in Fort Calhoun before he fled to Texas.

Collins argued his case should be thrown out because of delays to his right for a speedy trial.

The Nebraska Supreme Court disagreed. In its ruling, the Court stated: “these postponements of arraignment were periods of delay resulting from continuances granted at the request or with the consent of the defendant or his or her counsel.”

Williams is charged with 1st-degree murder for the death of Linda Childers, 71.

On Aug. 14, 2023, Childers was found dead in Fort Calhoun. Authorities eventually arrested Collins in Galveston County, Texas, on unrelated charges and extradited him to Nebraska a month later…
