A family vacation meant to end at Disney World turned into a nightmare within moments of arriving at their rental home in Kissimmee, Florida.
Authorities say a 4 year old boy climbed into the family’s car late Sunday afternoon while relatives were checking into their Airbnb. Inside, his 2 year old cousin, identified by relatives as Brayden Tennyson, was still waiting. The older boy found an unsecured handgun that had been left in the vehicle and discharged it, striking the toddler.
Osceola County Sheriff Chris Blackmon said deputies and emergency crews reached the Storey Lake area rental community just before 4 p.m. Paramedics worked to save the toddler at the scene before rushing him to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, where he later died.
Gun belonged to the toddler’s mother
Investigators identified the firearm’s owner as the mother of the child who was killed. The weapon had been left unholstered and within reach inside the car, according to the sheriff’s office.
