ORLANDO, FL — Two Central Florida homeowners in their 70s and 80s say a rooftop solar purchase they expected to save money instead became the biggest financial mistake of their lives after their installer, Freedom Forever, filed for bankruptcy in April 2026.
Susan Bradley and Norman Beyer told WKMG ClickOrlando that the project moved so quickly once a salesperson came to their door that they felt locked in after the panels were installed. Their experience has become part of a wider shakeout in residential solar, where bankruptcies and aggressive sales tactics have left some customers with costly problems instead of lower utility bills.
How a door-to-door pitch turned into a fast installation
Bradley and Beyer had already been talking about solar before the salesperson arrived, but Beyer said the pace of the deal changed everything. He told WKMG the company seemed intent on getting the panels onto the roof as quickly as possible, and once that happened, the couple felt they had little room to back out.
He said the installation made them feel trapped because the equipment was already in place.
