Mission could be in for a much bigger housing boom than originally planned at the long vacant former JCPenney call center site. The latest pitch calls for 651 residential units spread across three apartment buildings, a converted office tower and 15 townhomes.
Block Real Estate Services is now stretching the project south toward Mission Tower, according to the Kansas City Business Journal. BRES bought the 5700 Broadmoor property earlier this year after the original 300 unit concept did not pencil out financially, and the larger footprint is intended to make the development more viable. The expanded plan is being marketed as Foxridge 57. None of the cited sources include results from a Johnson County parcel search for “5700 Broadmoor” or “5665 Foxridge.”
Three apartment buildings and a 10-story conversion
The updated design features 289 apartments at 5665 Foxridge Drive, 188 apartments in a new building south of Mission Tower and 159 apartments inside the existing 10 story office tower. The plan also includes 15 townhomes tied into a shared parking garage, according to the Johnson County Post.
The biggest change from earlier versions is that adaptive reuse of the office tower.
