Mavericks say conflicts at arena could cause playoff games to be played without fans

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) – As the Kansas City Mavericks embark on another run through the Kelly Cup Playoffs, a scheduling snag has the franchise planning for the potential of fanless games.

The Mavericks shared a note with fans Friday about an issue facing them if the Mountain Division Finals reach a Game 6 or 7 — which would, if not for the issues, be hosted by the Mavericks at Cable Dahmer Arena.

“Due to circumstances beyond the organization’s control, any potential Games 6 and 7 of this series will be held at Independence Community Ice,” the Mavericks said. “Regrettably, these games will not be open to the public. We fully understand the significance of playoff hockey and the desire of our fans to be part of these critical moments.”…
