The first fully uncrewed offshore hydrographic survey is being conducted off the Florida coast. The uncrewed survey vessels will be used to support deep-sea coral and habitat mapping. Woolpert is conducting its first fully uncrewed offshore hydrographic survey mission in Florida for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, deploying multiple uncrewed survey vessels designed and piloted by Chance Maritime, and equipped with Woolpert’s multibeam sonar to map deep-sea corals and ocean habitats off the coast of Pensacola, Florida.
The Florida survey is underway and expected to be completed later this year.
Woolpert will collect 1,391 square nautical miles of high-resolution hydrographic survey data to explore deep-sea corals and other sensitive marine habitats, identify seafloor hazards, detect changes to the underwater environment, and update NOAA’s nautical charting products to enhance maritime safety…
