OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — Drivers traveling U.S. 98 this week should expect construction activity, lane closures, shoulder closures, and possible delays as multiple road improvement projects continue across Bay, Walton, Okaloosa, and Santa Rosa counties.
BAY COUNTY
U.S. 98 Widening Project — Mandy Lane to Nautilus Street Construction activities may require lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. Motorists are reminded that the speed limit remains temporarily reduced to 40 mph through the work zone.
- New traffic signals at Mandy Lane and Gulf Boulevard were recently placed into flash mode and are scheduled to become fully operational on July 7
- The project will widen approximately 2.3 miles of U.S. 98 from four lanes to six lanes and is expected to be completed this summer
OKALOOSA AND WALTON COUNTIES
U.S. 98 Resurfacing — Santa Rosa County Line to west of Josie Road Motorists will encounter shoulder closures throughout the project limits from Monday, June 22, through Friday, June 26, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for utility relocation and median improvements.
State Road 293 (Danny Wuerffel Way) Resurfacing — U.S. 98 to Mid-Bay Bridge Drivers will encounter intermittent lane closures on U.S. 98 from Paraiso Boulevard to Regions Way and on State Road 293 (Danny Wuerffel Way) from U.S. 98 to the Mid-Bay Bridge from Sunday, June 21, through Thursday, June 25, between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. for signalization and striping operations.
SANTA ROSA COUNTY
U.S. 98 Resurfacing Project — Bayshore Road to Portside Drive Crews are actively paving U.S. 98 between Bayshore Road and Portside Drive. According to FDOT, crews are currently placing the structural asphalt layer, an essential phase that must be completed throughout the project before the final friction course can be applied.
