Milton’s plan: restore this popular park back to its former glory

MILTON, Fla. (WKRG) — Water testing in Milton, Florida, could hold the key to rejuvenating a popular summertime spot.

“Carpenter’s Park is probably one of our most popular parks,” Milton Landscaping Department Head Lee Willingham said. “With the splash pad here, you’ve got the playground, but also the kids like to play in the creek because right now, they can only use this upper part of it because the vegetation has taken over down here at the lower end of it.”

With a $50,000 grant from the Pensacola Bay Estuary Program, the sampling is intended to see what’s been built on top of the soil over many years.

“Looking for sediment in the water, minerals in the water and things like that,” said Willingham. “Right now, the water backs up and floods into the park anytime we have heavy rains and so the park is just not managing in the way it’s supposed to.”
