3 men exonerated after judge overturns 1997 murder convictions; 2 released and reunited with family

Three men imprisoned for nearly three decades were exonerated Tuesday after a judge threw out their 1997 convictions in the stabbing death of a 73-year-old North Philadelphia woman.

Two of the men, Rasheed Smith and Jermal Shuler, were released from SCI Phoenix in Skippack Township, Pennsylvania, by the end of the day.

A third man, Marc Brittingham, remained at SCI Chester overnight because of processing delays. He is expected to be released Wednesday morning…
