Philadelphia Police Officer-Involved Shooting

On Saturday, May 23, 2026, at approximately 10:22 AM, Sergeant #1 was in full uniform operating a marked police vehicle in the area of Kensington Ave and Hart Lane.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Sergeant #1, who was assigned as the street supervisor for the Kensington Police District, was flagged down by an individual who pointed out a male that he had been involved in a disturbance with and indicated that the male (defendant) was armed with a firearm. Sergeant #1 approached the defendant regarding the disturbance. During the encounter, a physical altercation briefly occurred between the defendant and the complainant before the defendant fled on foot southbound on Kensington Avenue. Sergeant #1 pursued the defendant on foot into the rear area of a property on the 2800 block of Kensington Avenue.

During the foot pursuit, the defendant fell while in possession of a firearm. A struggle then ensued between Sergeant #1 and the defendant over control of the weapon, with Sergeant #1 repeatedly ordering the defendant to drop the weapon.
