Chickie’s & Pete’s tells Jersey Shore seafood joint to stop selling Crab Fries

A chain of Philadelphia region restaurants known for its seafood-seasoning sprinkled French fries took a Jersey Shore restaurant to task over their French fries smothered with crab meat.

According to an Instagram post by Betty’s Seafood Shack in Margate, the waterfront restaurant and take-out spot last week received a cease-and-desist letter from Chickie’s & Pete’s over a Betty’s menu item called Crab Fries.

Chickie’s & Pete’s has for decades sold Crabfries, French fries coated with a seafood seasoning and served with queso.

The Betty’s dish is French fries covered in queso and lump crab meat.

Chickie’s & Pete’s sent the letter to Betty’s on Sept. 12, according to the restaurant’s social media post, after catching wind of their Crab Fries dish.

And while Betty’s appears to disagree that their Crab Fries can be confused with Chickie’s & Pete’s Crabfries, they’ve opted to rename the dish Jumbo Lump Fries.

Betty’s opened in Margate in 2023 and is affiliated with Water Dog Smoke House in neighboring Ventnor.
