The Holme Circle Civic Association last week welcomed historian Fred Moore for a discussion of neighborhood history.
Moore showed a series of maps that showed the growth of the area, mostly following World War II, from farmland to dense housing.
Early maps showed mills, cotton factories and the home of Timothy Matlack, a businessman chosen to inscribe the Declaration of Independence. A 1905 map showed plans for Pennypack Creek. Later maps showed the Northeast Airport opening in the 1930s and Pennypack Woods being built for veterans in the 1940s…
