Bowles faces backlash over social media posts

Peoria Unified School District Governing Board member Janelle Bowles is receiving backlash for her activity on social media, which has been characterized by members of the community as Islamophobic. During its governing board meeting on June 9, Muslim students, parents and community members urged the board to hold Bowles accountable.

“Your bigoted social media post disrupts the learning environment and compromises the safety of Peoria Unified School District,” commenter Angela Almansa said. “Your bigoted posts should automatically result in your firing and removal from public schools in any position around youth.

“It is not acceptable (to put) stuff like that online — (…) our children should always come first.”…
