The City of Phoenix has agreed to pay $605,000 to settle a wrongful death lawsuit alleging firefighters fatally injured a 76-year-old man after allegedly dropping him while transporting him from his home in a rolling office chair.
The Phoenix City Council unanimously approved the settlement during a July 1 meeting, according to a city council agenda report reviewed by PEOPLE.
According to 12News and FireRescue1, the lawsuit alleges firefighters responded to Ronald Shuck’s home after he experienced difficulty standing. The outlets reported firefighters placed Shuck in a rolling office chair to check his vital signs and determined he should be taken to a hospital.
