Mesa pulls out the stops for Independence Day

Mesa is pulling out all the stops for Independence Day as the city wraps up its yearlong America250 celebration with one of Arizona’s largest Fourth of July festivals, featuring a new patriotic drone show, expanded military exhibits, live entertainment and a fireworks spectacular.

The free Willmeng Arizona Celebration of Freedom returns from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, transforming the Mesa Convention Center and Amphitheatre campus into a sprawling patriotic festival celebrating both Independence Day and the nation’s 250th birthday.

While fireworks remain the centerpiece, city officials say this year’s event offers more than a traditional holiday display.

For the first time, approximately 200 drones will take to the sky in a choreographed aerial show sponsored by NTT Global Data Centers…
