A man who used a wheelchair has died after being struck by a car in Phoenix, in an area city planners have already flagged for safety concerns. Officers found him with serious injuries near 24th Street and Roosevelt on April 9 and rushed him to a hospital. Phoenix police say he died on April 11. Authorities have not released his identity while detectives continue to investigate the collision.
What police say
According to 12News, Phoenix police told reporters the crash happened April 9 near 24th Street and Roosevelt and that the driver tried to avoid the man but could not. The driver remained at the scene, and detectives said he “showed no signs of impairment,” though police also told the station the victim may have been impaired when he was struck. No arrests or charges have been announced as the Vehicular Crimes Unit examines the case.
