Mesa woman injured by a stray bullet while walking her dog

PHOENIX — A Mesa woman was injured Sunday evening after she was struck by fragments from a bullet while out for a walk, according to officials with the Mesa Police Department.

Officers responded to an area near Val Vista Drive and Adobe Street after reports that a woman had been hit by an unknown object while walking her dog. Officers found the woman with what looked like a gunshot wound to the leg and she was taken to a nearby hospital, officials with the department said. Medical personnel found bullet fragments in the wound, officials said.
