E-bike regulations becoming popular in Pittsburgh suburbs

In response to safety concerns, municipalities across the region have begun to pass ordinances regulating electric bike usage.

In Arnold, an ordinance proposed last month — which mirrors state roadway laws — prohibits e-bike use on some city-owned property. It was in response to the community’s and local government’s safety concerns, especially after a man riding an e-bike last year was hit by a vehicle, said Arnold City Councilman Aaron Moore.

“If we sit back and do nothing, people will wonder why we sat back and did nothing,” Moore said. “This is a step that I feel like we needed to take for public safety.”…
