Alcoa Corp. is close to a sale of a closed aluminum smelter in upstate New York for a data center project. The sale is the latest in what is expected to be up to $1 billion in sales of former assets.
CFO Molly Beerman said the Pittsburgh-based manufacturer had been in talks to sell the closed smelter, known as Messina East in Messina, New York.
Alcoa is “very close to announcing a deal with a data center developer,” Beerman said during a session at the Jeffries 2026 Global Industrials Conference in New York. The Messina East smelter has been idled since 2014 and is already the site of a data center from North Country Colocation Services since 2017…
