It’s common for Americans to move cities. According to U.S. Census Bureau data, the average American is expected to move almost 12 times during their life. If anyone knows about the various moves Americans make, it’s U-Haul, one of the country’s biggest DIY moving and storage companies. U-Haul’s recent 2026 Midyear Migration Trends report has revealed that Dallas, Texas, has received the most millennials (people born between 1981 and 1996) from St. Louis, Missouri, between July 2025 and June 2026. This isn’t a quick move to a neighboring city either — millennials hiring a U-Haul van or trailer need to transport their belongings around 10 hours to reach Dallas from St. Louis.
U-Haul has used its own proprietary data for creating this report, focused purely on one-way U-Haul transactions for trucks, trailers, and U-Box containers. The data spans the aforementioned 52-week period and breaks down transactions by generation. However, only U.S. metros with one million residents or more have been included in the report. The generational spread of St. Louis-based one-way U-Haul transactions reveals that while Dallas has welcomed more St. Louis millennials than any other city, Kansas City has been most popular among boomers, Denver for Gen X, and Chicago for Gen Z…
