Plantation High School was placed on lockdown Thursday after police received reports of a large student fight and a student who might possess a weapon on campus, prompting officers to search the school at 6901 NW 16th Street.
Perimeter Set as Search Continues
Plantation Police set up a perimeter around the school and prevented people from entering or leaving the area around Plantation High as officers searched the campus, according to Local 10 News. Police said via social media that officers were on scene and actively searching the school, according to CBS Miami. The lockdown was lifted, the school received an all-clear and normal operations resumed. Police located the student, found no weapon and detained at least one person. Local 10 reported that no injuries occurred as a result of the fight.
The lockdown comes less than a year after a strikingly similar scene played out just blocks from the same campus. A Pattern of Lockdowns Across the City
Plantation High isn’t the only campus in the city to face this kind of scramble recently. South Plantation High School was placed on lockdown after a spent shell casing was found and police searched the building, per the same reporting. That incident and Thursday’s response both reflect how quickly Broward County schools mobilize once a gun report surfaces near students.
Beyond the two Plantation campuses, the broader district has weathered other violent incidents tied to school events.
