ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A massive, multi-agency crackdown on violent crime and narcotics has led to a wave of arrests and the seizure of high-powered, illegal weapons in St. Lucie County over a blistering three-day blitz.
Dubbed “Operation: Summer Heat,” the proactive crime suppression initiative pairs local law enforcement with federal heavy hitters, according to authorities. The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office and the Fort Pierce Police Department joined forces with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to target gang activity, remove illegal firearms, and disrupt local drug pipelines.
According to officials, the coordinated effort has already resulted in 10 total arrests and the removal of several dangerous weapons from local streets. The latest six arrests come from an announcement by the sheriff’s office on Monday.
