South Florida drought improves slightly in latest U.S. Drought Monitor update

There is some good news in the latest U.S. Drought Monitor released Thursday.

Recent rounds of heavy rainfall have helped improve drought conditions across parts of South Florida, including portions of Palm Beach County. While much of the region is still experiencing dry conditions, the newest map shows gradual improvement compared to last week’s update.

Palm Beach County Sees Improvement

The biggest change in the CBS12 viewing area occurred across eastern Palm Beach County, where many locations improved from Moderate Drought (D1) to Abnormally Dry (D0).

That means recent rainfall has helped replenish soil moisture and reduce some of the drought impacts that developed during the dry season…
