Flock Safety cameras spark debate on Treasure Coast

License plate reader cameras are drawing attention on the Treasure Coast after Indian River County Sheriff Eric Flowers credited the technology with leading to an arrest in a homicide case.

Flowers said the Flock Safety system, a nationwide network of cameras connected to a searchable law enforcement database, played a key role in tracking a suspect to a West Virginia motel. The arrest came after what Flowers described as a cold-blooded murder in Vero Beach that triggered a multi-state manhunt.
