Warm to the west, stormy out east Wednesday in the PNW

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Warmer temperatures return to western Oregon and southwest Washington on Wednesday while storms build out east.

Decreasing clouds and abundant sunshine will help warm Portland area temperatures into the upper 70s and low 80s Wednesday afternoon. These warming temperatures come with an increase in northwesterly winds during the afternoon hours. Some wind gusts could near almost 20 to 25 mph.

Thunderstorms have the potential to develop over the Cascades Wednesday afternoon. Severe thunderstorms with damaging weather conditions, like strong winds and larger hail is possible for SE Oregon, alongside an increased concern for wildfire activity. Frequent lightning could start and spread wildfires rapidly in the already drought-stricken area.

The isolated thunderstorm activity remains through the day Thursday. That’s where some storms have the chance to turn severe again. Damaging winds, large hail, and landspout tornadoes are all a threat for eastern Oregon and southeast Washington Thursday.

Willamette Valley temperatures are expected to warm into the mid 80s by Thursday.

Another system will help drop temperatures and bring a few rain showers back to the western half of the Pacific Northwest by Friday. The next warming trend will send the greater Portland-Vancouver area back towards the upper 80s and 90s as June approaches…
