PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Dark Horse Comics employees are working to unionize just a week after the Oregon-founded publisher announced the closure of its stores.
Dark Horse Workers United revealed on Wednesday that staff gave Interim CEO Jay Komas a deadline of Wednesday, June 3, to voluntarily recognize their union with Communications Workers of America Local 7901. The organization will file a petition for a union election with the National Labour Relations Board if it does not meet the deadline, according to an announcement.

Fifty-nine employees have signed a letter informing Komas of their intent to unionize, DHWU said.
“The looming uncertainty from recent layoffs, wage/hiring freeze, change in leadership power, emergence of artificial intelligence, and return-to-office policies (despite their economic impact on employees) have fueled us to organize and collectively address our concerns,” the group wrote in the letter. “These are just a few examples of why we are seeking a democratic workplace.”…
