Troutdale woman sentenced to federal prison for dumping 500K gallons of wastewater in Hillsboro

A Troutdale woman will serve federal prison time after prosecutors said she illegally dumped roughly 500,000 gallons of industrial wastewater laced with hydrofluoric acid and heavy metals into the Hillsboro sewer system.

Kayla Hartley, 36, received a five-month sentence, a $25,000 fine and three years of supervised release for conspiring to violate the Clean Water Act, according to a May 28 release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon.

Prosecutors said Hartley served as director of operations at Northwest Slurry Solutions and Hydro Excavation LLC, 1748 N.E. 25th Ave. in Hillsboro, and helped market the business as capable of accepting industrial wastewater despite lacking the required permits…
