Oregon rescue shelter seeks support for puppies with formula-related fractures

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — One local animal rescue took in nine puppies, but after discovering the puppies were ingesting recalled puppy formula, the rescue, nicknamed “Brady Bunch litter,” needed life-saving orthopedic surgery.

Hazel’s House Rescue launched a fundraiser and asked for community help to get five of the puppies the critical surgery they need to recover.

The puppies were being fed Breeder’s Edge Foster Care Puppy Formula. That formula was marketed to provide all the nutrition orphaned dogs need. But at 4 weeks old, the puppies began showing signs of bowed limbs, mobility issues, and signs of fractures.

“At first, we thought maybe these puppies had been injured before coming into care,” said Hazel’s House Rescue. “But when one puppy became three, then five, we knew something much bigger was wrong.”…
