‘The area needs help’: Parkrose grocery store closure fuels debate over food access, police staffing in East Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — As the Parkrose Grocery Outlet prepares to shutter its doors by the end of June, some residents fear the loss could push the neighborhood closer to becoming a food desert.

“We appreciate the loyalty of the Parkrose community and thank our customers for choosing to shop with us,” a Grocery Outlet spokesperson wrote in a previous statement. “Although the Parkrose location is closing, we look forward to welcoming shoppers at our other Portland-area stores, where they can continue to find significant savings on top brands.”
