PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Sunday was a scorcher across the Pacific Northwest, as a strong area of high pressure settled into the region over the weekend and will linger into Monday before relief arrives Tuesday.
Daily high temperature records for Sunday, June 14th were broken under light offshore wind that helped push the temperatures into the 90s, even at the beaches.
Portland set a new daily high temperature record of 94 degrees on Sunday, besting the old record of 89 degrees set on this day in 1988. More even more impressive was the 89 degree high temperature at Astoria, which bested the old daily record high temperature of 86 degrees set more than 112 years ago, back in 1914. The same situation occurred in Eugene on Sunday with a high of 96 degrees, besting the old record of 92 degrees set back in 1914, as well.
Another hot day is on the way Monday, with temperatures at or slightly above that of Sunday. The coast should see a cool down on Monday. No rainfall is expected as we head towards Father’s Day weekend.
