Juneteenth Oregon celebration, parade returns to North Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – The Portland metro area is gearing up for celebrations of freedom honoring the moment when slavery came to an end in America.

Juneteenth, which is now a federally recognized holiday, is on Friday, June 19, and Portland’s annual parade and festival organized by Juneteenth Oregon is back on Saturday.

The parade will make its way down Martin Luthr King Jr. Boulevard at 11 a.m., and the festival will be held throughout the day at Lilis-Albina Park in North Portland…
