Portland drive-in burger joint, closed for decades, may reopen in NW hills

Plans are underway to reopen, in one form or another, the Forest Park Drive-In restaurant in the northwest Portland hills, according to city permitting records.

The original burger joint was a passion project of the late Benny Pachkofsky, a World War II veteran who grew up in North Portland.

But the drive-in at 8410 N.W. Skyline Boulevard has been closed for decades since its 1960s heyday, even as its signature midcentury sign still rustily hails drivers with the passing promise of “burgers” and “freshly frozen soft cream.”…
