‘A million different reasons’: Southern food joint in North Portland announces closure

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Southern-inspired North Portland food joint will close in less than two weeks.

Miss Delta has announced Friday, July 3 will be its final day of regular operations on 3950 N Mississippi Ave. There are “a million different reasons” behind the Boise neighborhood restaurant’s closure, according to an Instagram post owner Marcus Oliver shared on Monday.

“After the death of a business partner, COVID shutdowns, break-ins, a fire, multiple floods and now hard economic times — I just don’t have it in me to fight for it anymore and do everything needed to keep going!” Oliver wrote. “After 37 years in the restaurant industry, I am leaving and moving into a different career path. The restaurant industry is a wild one and I’m ready to step back and try a new challenge with a better work/life balance!”

He previously told KOIN 6’s Everyday Northwest the business originally opened as an offshoot of the Delta Cafe on Woodstock Boulevard. Miss Delta opened in North Portland 19 years ago, with Oliver taking over as the owner about 14 years ago…
