Portland City Councilor Candace Avalos was named Monday in a Multnomah County lawsuit stemming from her time as executive director of the east Portland nonprofit Verde.
The lawsuit, filed by former employee Alagia Amber Conwell-Felix, alleges Avalos and supervisor Luis Velasco unlawfully terminated her while she was on approved paid leave. The complaint also claims the firing came after she raised concerns with human resources about alleged racial discrimination.
Conwell-Felix is seeking $999,000 in economic and noneconomic damages, alleging that Avalos, Velasco and Verde are liable for paid leave interference, racial discrimination, whistleblower retaliation, sick time retaliation and wrongful discharge…
