When rumors first started swirling that Hillsboro’s power grid was hitting a terminal bottleneck, the Hillsboro Herald dug in and asked questions. Officials pointed to spreadsheets and promised “steady growth.” But the physical evidence on the ground told a completely different story: informants working in a local Data Cebter called to tell us the project was done but would sit dormant. Local landowners told us that major industrial land deals were collapsing in escrow or being extended because Portland General Electric (PGE) told them there wouldn’t be sufficient power available for another three to four years to power the intended users , Data Centers.

The Herald reached out to both the City of Hillsboro and PGE, and no one refuted the premise.  We blew that whistle on April 16th of this year. No one else in the press took a swing at this story, and that seemed odd…
