Mattt Zmuda, who moved to Portland fourteen years ago, has become a citizen activist seeking to merge Multnomah County and the City of Portland.
At a recent Woodstock Neighborhood Association meeting, Zmuda shared the frustration that led him to start the grassroots campaign “MultNoMo”.
As the father of four young children, he was tired of reading about the decline in Portland’s ability to solve its problems. But, he said, what drove him to this campaign was the fatal shooting at Central Library on July 1, 2025. He had planned on taking his eight-year-old daughter there that afternoon, but by chance they ended up staying home.
