Portland Japanese Garden sets July 12 Tanabata Star Festival

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — The Portland Japanese Garden will host its annual Tanabata (Star Festival) celebration on Sunday, July 12. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

“Tanabata celebrates the annual meeting of Orihime (Vega) and Hikoboshi (Altair), two lovers separated by the Milky Way who are reunited just once each year,” the Portland Japanese Garden said in a news release.

Visitors can write wishes on colorful tanzaku paper and hang them from bamboo branches throughout the garden…
