Crews battle solar panel fire at Beaverton townhome

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A homeowner and neighbor helped prevent a rooftop solar panel fire from spreading into a Beaverton townhome Monday afternoon, officials said.

At around 12:13 p.m., Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue said crews were sent to the 12400 block of Southwest Cady Lane in Beaverton after receiving a report about a fire

Officials said that smoke and flames were coming from the roof of a three-story townhouse and that a bystander had alerted the homeowner, who immediately shut the solar panel power off.

Firefighters were able to control the fire in under an hour, but the task was difficult due to the lack of access to the side of the roof where the solar panel was located.
