PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — While councilors eventually agreed to restore millions of dollars and save dozens of jobs, the Portland City Council meeting featured some tense moments in the wake of Mayor Keith Wilson casting his first-ever tie-breaking vote.
There was a divide within the 12 Portland city councilors Wednesday when it came to deciding on how to restore jobs and money from the recently adopted city budget, with two groups offering different proposals.
Progressive councilors were pushing to use interest from the Clean Energy Fund, while moderates wanted access to unused money that’s meant for a future police accountability board — also known as the Office of Community Police Accountability.“But, I hope that, administration, you are listening to us loud and clear, and know that we will come for you in ways that we have never come for you before, if you touch the OCPA.
