Elephants Deli NW flagship, damaged by fire, could be reborn as a food hall

A fire-damaged building in Northwest Portland could in time reopen as a food hall.

Elephants Delicatessen’s flagship restaurant — which opened at 115 N.W. 22nd Ave. more than two decades ago — has been closed for nearly six months. In March, an early morning fire tore through the building, causing the roof to collapse and forcing the deli to shut down.

Recent proposals filed with the city, though, point toward a new chapter for the Northwest Portland property — not as a deli, but as a different culinary destination…
