Auditor: Portland wasted $650k in tax dollars on contractors who couldn’t do the job

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — The auditor for the city of Portland investigated a hotline tip and found the city had wasted $650,000 dollars to hire temporary contractors for an HR project that they could not complete.

The mishap caused a one-year delay in the urgent project and prompted the city to then hire another contractor for $600,000 to complete the same project.

The auditor’s office received the tip one year ago and requested that City Operations, which oversees Technology Services and Human Resources, investigate and turn over their findings…
