Portland overnight shelter forced to turn people away after nearby NW Northrup shelter closes

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – A Northwest Portland overnight shelter is already feeling the strain from the recent closure of the Northwest Northrup shelter, with surging bed demand forcing staff to turn people away.

“It’s heart wrenching every time we tell someone that they can’t stay here,” said Bethanie’s Room Executive Director Steve Cook.
