‘A horror movie’: Questions mount after nonverbal kindergartner escaped from Portland school, entered traffic

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Portland mother says she has been pushing for answers from Portland Public Schools after her 5-year-old son, a nonverbal kindergartner with level-two autism, left his Southeast Portland elementary school and ended up in traffic.

Erin McDonald-Wentzell said her son, Ginsburg, got out of Grout Elementary on Sept. 9 after leaving the playground through an open gate.
