Oregon board votes to immediately revoke ex-cop’s police certification in emergency action

A state public safety board Thursday took the unusual step of stripping a former Gresham officer of his police certification as he faces dozens of sexual abuse charges and disappeared after cutting off his GPS monitoring bracelet.

The state Department of Public Safety Standards & Training hasn’t sought an emergency suspension of a police officer’s certification in the last decade and has no record of taking such an action in agency history, according to Sam Tenney, a department spokesperson.

Hector Carranza faces 56 felony charges in Multnomah County including rape, sexual abuse, luring a minor and using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct and 27 counts in Clackamas County of second-degree sexual abuse…
