RECORD HEAT LIKELY TODAY

We’ve arrived at what will be our warmest day of the year and a hot afternoon. The abnormally hot afternoon has led us to declare today a First Alert Weather Day. We still expect temperatures to touch right around 90°, which would be a new daily high temperature for the day. The current record is 89°, so if we don’t quite make it to 90, there’s a good chance we could also tie that record. The heat will come on quickly after lunchtime, which will still be comfortable. Temperatures will also cool off quickly but still be in the low 70s by late tonight.

If our forecast holds- Portland, Vancouver, Hillsboro, McMinnville, Salem, Eugene and Astoria will all set or tie warm temperature records in the afternoon. We could challenge some daily warm low temperatures, too.

WARM AIR, COLD WATER

Even though it will feel hot outside, rivers and lakes will still be very cold and fast-moving.

That combination can be dangerous. Cold water can shock your body quickly, even on a warm day. If you’re heading near the water, take it seriously and use proper safety gear.

STAYING WARM NEXT WEEK

This coming week will feature much more comfortable warmth, but temperatures will still be about 10° or so above average for this time of year for several days. It’s a very warm start to the month of May. Expect clouds in the morning, which will clear to mostly sunny skies by the afternoon. There is no rain in sight in the forecast…
