Contractor dies at Portland area dam after ‘workplace accident’

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A person died in a “workplace accident” at a dam in Clackamas County on Thursday afternoon, officials said.

According to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred at the River Mill Dam, located at 30800 SE Kilowatt Lane, just before 4:30 p.m.

“The accident involved an individual contracted to perform equipment testing at the dam and occurred during testing operations,” CCSO said. “Despite lifesaving efforts, the individual contracted to perform equipment testing was pronounced dead at the scene. One Portland General Electric employee was transported by AMR to a local hospital for treatment.”

Estacada Fire, whose firefighters also responded, said one of their crews had rushed to help two people. Meanwhile, another crew went into the dam to investigate and found the contractor. However, they had to wait for the power to be secured and were unable to save that person’s life…
