Portland area voters approve money for historical society and fire station, reject funding for police

Voters across three Portland area counties Tuesday approved some money measures and rejected others that total nearly $675 million in renewed or higher property taxes.

The measures set out to boost programs at the Oregon Historical Society, build a new fire station in Lake Oswego, bolster a massive park system in Washington County and pay for police operations or facilities in Tigard and Clackamas County.

Passing any money measures in today’s economic climate — as inflation reaches a three-year high and affordability remains top of mind — posed a hurdle. The total ask for the five measures was nearly $675 million, paid through property taxes over the next five to 30 years…
