PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — May is ALS Awareness Month, and on the latest episode of 12 Health, Shannon Hegy was joined by the executive director of ALS United Rhode Island, as well as a local couple impacted by this devastating disease.
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive, neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Five thousand people are diagnosed each year, and there are 100 people currently living with it in Rhode Island.
