Beloved Massachusetts restaurant closing after 55 years in business

A longtime Massachusetts restaurant known for its Polynesian-style atmosphere and decades of family gatherings is preparing to close after more than half a century in business. The closure comes as many long-standing restaurants are forced to close for various reasons, including changing consumer habits and rising costs.

Closure of Mon Kou Restaurant

Mon Kou Restaurant in Attleboro announced that it plans to permanently close on May 31, 2026, as the owners prepare for retirement. The restaurant has served the community since 1971 and has become a local institution across southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

The restaurant announced that beginning May 9, it would move to limited takeout service only during its final weeks of operation. According to the owners, dine-in service ended as customer demand surged following the closure announcement.
